The book collects a selection of topics of tropical diseases of wide diffusion and great impact in terms of Public Health. In fact, the selection of diseases has been made according to criteria of epidemiological importance, in terms of diffusion in different geographical areas, and clinical impact. In particular, the following topics were addressed: HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, haemorrhagic fever, sepsis, meningitis, diarrhoea and foodborne diseases, viral hepatitis, pregnancy infections, bone infections, vaccinations, antibiotic therapy and the use of ultrasound in tropical diseases. Finally, a chapter on Covid-19 has been added. Biografia dell'autoreRoberto Cauda is Professor of Infectious Diseases at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Chairman of the Infectious Diseases Unit at Policlinico Agostino Gemelli in Rome. He has filled many academic positions in Italy and abroad, especially in USA, where he worked as Visiting Professor at some prestigious universities (University of Alabama at Birmingham, National Institute of Health Bethesda, Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research San Antonio Texas). Some of his areas of interests are tropical diseases, immunological aspects of AIDS, antibiotic policy and antibiotic resistance and epidemiology, clinical and therapeutical aspects of HIV-associated bacterial and fungal diseases. From 2006 to 2018 he was Director of the University Center for International Solidarity of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. The University Center for International Solidarity (CeSI) was founded in 2006 to coordinate cooperation and solidarity initiatives implemented by Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. CeSI wants to support synergy between numerous projects promoted in each campus by the twelve faculties. In order to reach this important goal, CeSI has been active for years in developing international projects and has taken part in a variety of cultural and geographical ‘outer reach’ contexts. Wherever it operates, the Center is engaged in spreading the culture and practice of solidarity through the knowledge and expertise of the Università Cattolica. As a mission of the University, the Centre pays social special attention to agro-food needs, microfinance, education, communication and medicine. |
